Nokia 8 Gets Android 8.1 Oreo Beta Update

Nokia 8 has started receiving Android 8.1 Oreo Beta update just few months after HMD Global rolled out the public build version of Android 8.0 Oreo update for the device.  Last year October, the company rolled out the beta version of Android 8.0 and later in November that same year, the device got the stable version of the update.

The Chief Product Officer at HMD Global Juho Sarvikas in a tweet announced that they would begin testing the Android 8.1 Oreo beta update with the Nokia 8 device. In his tweet, Juho wrote;
Be our guest as we serve #AndroidOreo 8.1 beta for #Nokia8 . Updating your device today will enable a host of new features. And most importantly - the hamburger emoji fix with cheese now on top of the patty! Get it here
Android 8.1 brings several new features including Neural Networks API, hamburger emoji fix, Revamped power menu, New Settings Menu, Bluetooth Battery percentage and developer APIs (API level 27), along with the latest optimizations, bug fixes, and security patches.

Android 8.1 for the Nokia 8 makes HMD Global one of the first OEMs to roll out this Oreo Maintenance Release to the non-Google devices. The Nokia 8 Android 8.1 Oreo beta update (V4.82A) weighs 1.55GB in size and it brings the Android security patch for January 2018.

The update is being rolled out through Nokia’s Beta Labs Program, and to be a member, you need to first join the Nokia phones beta labs, with your working Nokia 8 phone, create an account and then validate your device by entering the IMEI number. After this, you will start getting the beta software update Over-The-Air (OTA) which might take up to 12 hours post activation.
