Reason Why Motorola Is Cancelling The Moto X5 Smartphone

The Moto X5 was an upcoming smartphone bid to be launched this years from the stable of Lenovo. The device which is suppose to be a successor to the Moto X4 was expected to feature a 5.7 Inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080  pixels. Recent report surfaced online indicating Lenovo has cancelled the device and many wondered why.

Details gather suggest, that part of the reason behind the cancellation is that, the move is part of company’s layoff exercise. The company recently confirmed the layoffs in its Chicago office but announced that the Moto Z-series of modular phones is emerging unscathed.

The company revealed that it is changing its approach towards the Moto Mods modular accessories for its Moto Z series phones. Instead of releasing Moto Mods that appeal to niche markets, Motorola will now focus on that ones that it “believes can actually turn a profit.”

Motorola stated in an official statement saying;
In late 2017, Lenovo announced a worldwide resource action that would occur over the next several quarters, and impacting less than two percent of its global workforce. This week’s employment reductions are a continuation of that process. We are reducing our Motorola operations in Chicago; however, this did not impact half of our workforce there and our Moto Z family will continue.
The company will be focusing on its popular smartphone series such as the Moto G, Moto E and Moto Z. Some of the smartphone expected to be launched from the list above includes the Moto G6, G6 Plus, and G6 Play. Also expected are the Moto E5, E5 Plus, and E5 Play although no official date has been set yet.
